Game Theory Picks Weekly Recap: August 17 - 23

Weekly Recap: August 17th - 23rd

Sports are FLYING BY this summer, as another full week wrapped up. The MLB is nearly half-way done with their season, the NBA has begun playoffs, and the NHL is already entering the semi-finals of their playoffs as well. The best teams and top athletes come to play this time of season, and it will be thrilling to watch as these season’s progress towards the Finals. We closed last week at 31-25-1 (+9.31 units) and received solid numbers out of Baseball & Basketball.

MLB 11-9-1 (+4.81u)

We crushed the MLB week capturing a handful of big ML underdogs in the process. We nailed Tigers (+220), Angels (+140), Brewers (+140), and Cardinals (+156) as AWAY Team Underdogs over the course of last week! As we near the mid-way part of the season for most teams, there are only two teams with less than 10 losses in their “Loss Column” - the Yankees and the Dodgers. This comes without saying, but it is difficult for any team to sweep a full series in the MLB, and we took advantage of that last week. Since July 1st in MLB, we are 44-48-2 (+11.57 units), and will look to continue rolling into the 2nd half stretch of the year.

NBA 17-12 (+4.30u)

The Playoffs are FINALLY here! Last week was the most thrilling week of NBA Basketball in quite some time, and we saw the favorites come to play over the course of the first week of playoffs. We went 10-6 (62.5%) for 3.90 units on Favorites ATS alone last week, and witnessed star teams like the Bucks, Raptors, Celtics, and Lakers take care of business against their opponents and look antsy for advancing to the next round. Plays will tighten up as the number of total games dips during playoffs; however, the handicapping positions are endless on some of these NBA playoff lines.

PGA 2-1 (+2.00u)

The Northern Trust took place at TPC Boston over the weekend and was completely DOMINATED by Dustin Johnson as he took home the trophy shooting an unbelievable 30-under over the course of the tournament. Not a single golfer finished within 10 strokes of Johnson in this one! We swept the weekend on matchups again, and moved ourselves to 12-7 (63%) on matchup golf plays since July 1st! Jordan Spieth was unable to make the cut last weekend as his struggles continue on the course.

NHL 1-3 (-1.80u)

Hockey got the best of us on the ice this week, as we went 1-3 on underdogs for -1.80 units. We managed to get a win in the Canucks (+120) close out game against St. Louis, but failed to get victories from the Canadiens, Blackhawks and Coyotes. Hockey remains one of the most difficult sports to handicap, and playoff hockey adds even more turmoil. Since the NHL restart we are still up on units & presenting nearly a 4% ROI over the month for clients from hockey.

WNBA 0-0 (+0.00u)

WNBA did not present us with many opportunities last week, we had our eye on a few plays but ultimately left those of our client card. As stated before, WNBA is a very small league with 12 total teams; therefore, anticipate the play size to be minuscule throughout the season.
